A Clean Heart

Day 8: Psalm 51:10-12

David asked for a clean heart and a new spirit. What he had done with Bathsheba and organizing the murder of her husband, Uriah, could not have occurred with a pure heart and a good spirit. David was operating like Saul when he was seeking to kill David. The difference between the two is that David recognizing what he lost (a clean heart) and how it caused the loss of a marriage and the loss of a life.

The Spirit of God will not function or live in a dirty heart. This is why David asked for a clean heart. He knew that restoration cannot occur unless the Spirit of God is functioning within. Sin brings a great loss only to cause more loss in our lives and in the lives of others. God wants us to recognize that He can fix the loss with a clean heart and a right spirit.

(Prayer)

Father. In the name of Jesus I come and confess that I need You. Sin presents itself as something attractive and innocent until we lose more than we realize and are left dirty, without Your Spirit and without a defense. Clean our hearts, Lord and return Your Spirit so we can function again. Without You, we are hopeless and unable to function properly because we are trying to operate our lives from the position of a loss. You are the only one that can return us to a position of victory. Restore Your victory in our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen!
