Day 5:

(Scripture)

Psalm 23

Morning Devotion

The job of the shepherd is not easy. This is why they have to carry a rod and a staff. The rod is for Defense against the enemy. The staff is for Guidance to make sure the sheep stay on the right path and in the right field. The moment either one is removed, the enemy has an advantage and makes us think we are in charge.

When we think we can defend ourselves or guide ourselves we get into a mess giving the enemy an advantage. This is what makes Jesus so great. He can clean up the mess, give us the comfort that we need and removes any advantage the enemy had over us. The Great Shepherd is there to be the advantage we need when the problem is too much. When He is in charge, He makes the choices because He knows what’s best for us. Who has the advantage?

(Prayer)

Great God of creation! The God who made everything with His spoken Word. I thank You for everything You have done. Without You I am nothing and my requests are worthless. Yet You are my Shepherd providing for my every need along the way in this life.

I pray against every advantage that the enemy may try to have. His words are words of destruction, but Your words remind me that I am set free, loved, and protected. This is why I declare that You are my Shepherd and You are in charge of every situation. At no point in my day do I need to be in charge because you are in control. Lead me, Lord!

Amen!
